Natura 2000 Code: ES1300003The Tina Menor Estuary is the natural mouth of river Nansa into the Cantabrian Sea and is included in the SCI (“Western Rias and Oyambre Dune”). In this estuary there are 10 habitats of community interest (hábitats 1110, 1130, 1140, 1320, 1330, 1420, 2110, 4090, 91E0* y 9340).
In the surroundings of the Tina Menor Ria 30 different bird species have been registered, amongst which we may highlight (due to their presence in Annex I of the Bird Directive) the following species: Hydrobates pelagicus, Phalacrocorax aristotelis, Hieraaetus pennatus, Pernis aspivorus, Falco peregrinus, Alcedo atthis, Burhinus oedicnemus, Egretta garzetta, Limosa lapponica, Pluvialis apricaria and Recurvirostra avosetta, amongst others.
The specific areas of action are in the Eastern margin of the estuary, specifically in the area of the pond of the facilities of aquaculture company Tinamenor S.L. This area includes man-made dams and fills which generate areas with semi-enclosed lagoons with regulated water renewal. The following tasks will be developed in this area:
- Removal of Baccharis halimifolia specimens in an approximate area of 4.09 ha.
- Installation of a green filter in the spillage area of the sewage treatment company Tina Menor S.L. to allow reduce the content of organic and inorganic nutrients being spilled into the estuary.
- Draft of a bird biodiversity management plan.
Implementation of these plans will allow ensuring the preservation of biodiversity in the 30 ha of the estuary system where the aquaculture activity is developed.
